In the US they have an Emerging Technologies Interest Group (hmm interesting name, and emerging is better than new).

Unfortunately we only get the questions and not the answers.
I like that there is such a job title in the US as an emerging technologies librarian. It goes to the issue that there are enough emerging technologies to keep abreast of that it requires someone occupied full time.
I like also that it is a librarian role to understand and adapt emerging technologies to libraries needs and not an IT function.
We require IT staff to manage the systems that we as librarians need these days, but the usage and direction of the technologies should be directed for libraries by librarians.
