What could a Library do with freely available government data as supplied via not much so far it seems. There was a competition at this website Mashupaustralia, that closed last month in which people/organisations were asked to find ways to use/reuse data in useful apps.  No Library seem to have come to this party, which is a shame. There was however one app created by someone working at the CSIRO that sought to provide location finders for access to the Internet in public libraries, it can be found here Unfortunately it only seems to cover Victoria.

It made me think that an Australian Library map using maybe Google maps and the Australian Libraries Gateway data as can be seen here would be awesome.

Although libraries have not entered the competition there are still a whole range of apps created that help bring together information, which I am sure will be of great use for any reference Librarian.

A bit unrelated but something librarians should know about is Emergency 2.0 , no not kidding this is the site for when web 2.0 just wont do.
